It’s already been a banner June for Oregon on the recruiting trail, and now they’ve added another big-time prospect to their list of 2021 commits in the form of four-star cornerback Jaylin Davies out of Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California.
This is a huge commitment in a number of ways. The first one is Davies is obviously a big-time prospect. In the 247 Sports composite rankings he ranks 129th nationally and 12th at his position. But the other reasons it’s a big commitment is it gives them another player from Mater Dei, which has historically been a pipeline to USC, he also seems to fit a prototype that Oregon appears to be looking for at cornerback now with Rod Chance coaching the cornerbacks and longer corners like Jadarrius Perkins and Darren Barkins already committed. Also, Arizona State seemed to be the leader for Davies for a large portion of his recruitment, but Chance has closed the gap in a short period of time, showing his ability on the recruiting trail.
With the commitment of Davies, Oregon now jumps up to 6th nationally, jumping over Michigan and trailing USC by one spot nationally and of course second in the conference behind the Trojans in a race for the leader of the conference on the recruiting trail by a gap that has closed significantly in June.
Oregon now has 14 commitments, with one of those being a five-star after Troy Franklin recently got the bump up to a five-star prospect, and nine four-star commits to go with four three-star commits.
This is also unlikely to be Oregon’s last commitment of June.
