The 2021 recruiting class for Oregon is shaping up to be a potentially special one, and now they have added a quarterback to that class by picking up a commitment from four-star prospect Ty Thompson.

Thompson is the number eight-ranked pro-style quarterback prospect in the class and he is the third-ranked prospect out of Arizona, coming out of Gilbert, Arizona.
On top of his already high ranks, Thompson is someone who has been trending upwards as the recruiting cycle has been taking shape.
It’s not hard to see why colleges have been falling in love with Thompson. At 6’4″ he has good size and his arm strength is described as “elite” in his 247 Sports evaluation.
The only thing the evaluation states that he could improve is his mobility and his pocket presence. With those being the two main things it’s not hard to assume he needs to work on his maneuvering in the pocket, but that’s something that can improve, especially with more reps. Whether or not his mobility takes the steps it needs is going to be a little more difficult.
This class now has six commitments with five of them being rated as four-star prospects and five of them being offensive players.
Of course, it’s early in the cycle and with recruiting now taking a hiatus due to Covid-19, at least recruiting in person, it’s hard to know what the rest of this cycle will look like compared to normal, but being able to land a highly-touted quarterback in March is huge normally, but perhaps biggers the uncertainty around the rest of the recruiting cycle.
