The Los Angeles Lakers have picked up the fourth-year option on forward Kyle Kuzma. This move comes as no surprise. After being drafted 27th overall in the 2017 draft, Kuzma has been very productive.

Los Angeles Lakers Pick Up Option on Kyle Kuzma
As mentioned, Kuzma has been wildly productive, despite being drafted near the end of the first round.
In his two seasons, he is averaging 17.3 points per game. He is also grabbing 5.9 rebounds and dishing out 2.2 assists per game. He has done that while shooting a respectable, for his position, 33.5 percent from three.
During his time in the NBA, he has been one of the main bright spots for the franchise.
Now, with the team having Davis and LeBron James, Kuzma is viewed as the third biggest piece on this team going into the season.
Future With the Team
It’s only a matter of time until Kuzma gets a big contract. Most likely, that deal will come in the form of an extension with the Lakers, probably before he hits restricted free agency. However, he will be getting paid a lot of money in the near future.
As mentioned, the Lakers refused to trade him, even in a trade for Davis. That speaks volumes to what this franchise thinks of him.
Clearly, if the team didn’t view him as a core piece going forward, they would’ve been willing to include him in that deal, much like they did with most of their other young players.
Now, the Lakers will have two years of the Davis-James-Kuzma big three, at the least.
