Zay Jones has shown flashes of being a threat on the outside in his career. The Oakland Raiders need help at wide receiver. So to boost that, they have made a trade for the former Buffalo Bill. In the deal, Oakland will be sending a 2021 fifth-round pick to the Bills. The deal was first reported by Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Impact On Oakland
This is huge. Jones isn’t a household name in the league and he’s not one of the better receivers in the league. However, Oakland is extremely thin on the outside.
Tyrell Williams and Darren Waller have been the best targets on the team this season, but after that, it’s been Hunter Renfrow, who has 101 receiving yards on 12 catches and he’s only been targeted 23 times.
On the season Jones only has seven catches on 18 targets for 69 yards. Those are not good numbers. However, last season Jones put up 652 yards on 56 catches. Now he did only catch 56 of his 102 targets, which is not good, but that’s still good production in total.
As mentioned, Oakland is thin on the outside. Despite that, Derek Carr has been playing well the past few weeks. With Carr playing at a higher level than most would have expected, getting another receiver matters.
What type of role will he play? That’s tough to say. Of course, he probably won’t be a huge factor in the offense at first, but there’s no reason Jones can’t be a good contributor by the time the season ends.
Impact On Buffalo
In fact, Jones had become so expendable that he only played one snap in this week’s loss to the Titans.
Who knows who the Bills will end up getting with the extra fifth-round pick from Oakland, but getting rid of Jones will essentially play no factor in the rest of their season.
