MLB Players of the Week
For the Boston Red Sox, Rafael Devers has continued to be the biggest breakout player of the season.
He continued his big season this week, putting up a slash line of .593/.633/.1.185. To go with that, Devers hit three home runs and seven doubles, while driving in 11 runs.
Throughout the week, Devers played in six games and in those games, the Red Sox went 5-1. Devers also became the first player in baseball to reach 100 RBIs this season.
For Boston, they still possess a slight chance of making it to the AL Wild Card Game. It appears unlikely, but after a good week, led by Devers, that slight chance still exists. There’s also about a month left in the season, so it’s still possible.
The Arizona Diamondbacks sit in a similar position as the Red Sox. They sit just a few games out of a spot in the NL Wild Card Game, and Nick Ahmed this past week has helped put them in a great position.
This past week, Ahmed slashed .423/.464./1.038. To go with that impressive line, he hit four home runs and drove in 11 runs. However, in seven games that Ahmed played, the Diamondbacks only went 3-4. Not an ideal week for a team with an outside shot of grabbing a wild card spot.
Regardless, Nick Ahmed has shown this season that he is someone the Diamondbacks can build around at shortstop. If Ahmed can continue playing like this, it will help Arizona close the gap on a wild card spot.
