For the week of August 5-11, the MLB Players of the Week are Jorge Soler in the American League and Aristides Aquino in the National League.

Soler and Aquino win Player of the Week

Jorge Soler

The Kansas City Royals outfielder has had a breakout season. He took that to new heights this past week.

In a week in which the Royals went 3-3, Soler hit .409/.552./1.273. To go with that impressive slash line, he blasted six home runs and drove in 12 runs while drawing six walks to five strikeouts.

The Royals won’t be seeing the postseason this year, or likely any of the next few seasons, but the team put a lot of hope into him when he was traded for Wade Davis. So far Soler had yet to deliver. However, this season he will likely become the first player in franchise history with 40 home runs in a season.

Aristides Aquino

Aquino has barely spent any time in the major leagues for the Cincinnati Reds, but he has taken the league by storm.

Not only did he produce a three-home run game in only his 10th career game, but this week he was doing it every night.

For the week, Aquino slashed .500/.542/.1.364. To go with that he slugged six home runs and drove in 11 runs. Now only one extra-base hit this week wasn’t a home run and only four hits were singles.

For a team that is aiming for next season, this was an exciting thing to see. This has largely been a rough season for the Reds, but getting towards the end of it they got something exciting to watch.

What does this mean for the Reds going forward? Who knows. But for a short period of time, Reds fans have something exciting to watch.
