Defensive end Eyabi Anoma was the highest-ranked recruit for the 2018 Alabama recruiting class that finished number five in the nation. Back in February, he decided to enter the transfer portal, eventually pulling his name out. However, last week, he entered his name in the portal once again and this time he is actually transferring.
With Dana Holgerson having taken over the Cougars this past offseason, picking up a former top-five recruit nationally is a big deal. Last season as a freshman Anoma had two tackles for loss in six games.
So while he only played in six games, he showed the potential that had him so highly-rated coming out of high school.
Houston won’t get to see him on the field this season, but with this defense needing to be rebuilt after giving up 37.2 points per game last season, which ranked 119th nationally, getting any defensive talent in the program is a big deal.
And next season when he can actually get on the field, the dividends should be felt of him having a full year to be in their program and continuing to develop.
