Allen Bailey Signs With Atlanta

The Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive lineman Allen Bailey to a two-year deal. The deal was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This is a really nice pickup. It’s a bit of a mystery why Bailey was still available this close to the season starting, but give the Falcons credit for pouncing on the opportunity.

The former Kansas City Chief has played eight seasons in the league. In that time he has recorded 19.5 sacks, 34 tackles for loss and 33 quarterback hits.

On top of those very good numbers, he has forced four fumbles and recovered seven.

Atlanta was already set up to have a top-notch defense next season because they are healthy after being so decimated by injuries last season. Now they have added a very nice under-the-radar defensive lineman.

The Role of Allen Bailey

Bailey will largely be a depth signing. Atlanta already has a very good defensive line, but there is playing time to be had on the inside next to Grady Jarrett.

During his career, Bailey has been versatile. He’s spent time playing on the inside and outside of the defensive line, and he has even spent some time at outside linebacker.

With that level of versatility, combined with the production he’s put up, there will be a spot for Bailey.

How much he will play is something that is to be determined. But don’t be surprised to see Allen Bailey having a nice role on a Falcons team set up for a bounce-back season.

Atlanta has now addressed everything they really can defensively. They have locked up franchise defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. And they have locked up franchise linebacker Deion Jones.

The defense now looks like a finished product following this signing. Now, all eyes turn towards Julio Jones and his contract situation.
