Michigan State destroys Iowa

Michigan State and Iowa were set up for a top-20 matchup early last week in East Lansing, but the game ended up not being close. The Spartans went in and flexed their muscle, beating the Hawkeyes 90-68, behind 26 points and 9 rebounds from Nick Ward on a perfect 10/10 shooting. This was a big early season conference win for the Spartans.

Vernon Carey Jr. commits to Duke

Duke flexed its recruiting muscle again last week when they landed the nations number two overall recruit, according to 247 Sports, Vernon Carey Jr. Carey Jr. is an elite center prospect that already has the body of an NBA player. He will be the next big one-and-done prospect at Duke.

Nevada picks up a ranked win over Arizona State

Arizona State is the only ranked team in the Pac-12 and they had a big test Friday when they played Nevada, but it was also a big test for Nevada to prove they’re legit by beating a power five conference team, even though if you’ve seen them play you know they’re legit. They had four players go for double figures in their 72-66 win over Arizona State and proved why they’re one of the nations elite teams.

Seton Hall beats Kentucky

Keldon Johnson hit a half court shot as time expired for Kentucky to be able to send the game to overtime, but then in overtime Seton Hall outscored Kentucky 14-13 to pull out an 84-83 win, lead by the 28 points from Myles Powell. Kentucky hasn’t looked overly-impressive so far this season, but as long as they are playing better at the end of the season like they tend to do, this will be a nice resume win for them later in the season.

Marquette pulls off another upset

Marquette had a chance to pull off their second top-15 win of the season when they were hosting 12th ranked Wisconsin and they were able to do it, winning 74-69. They were lead once again by Markus Howard, who put up 27 points, although he wasn’t nearly as efficient as he was against Kansas State, only going 7/29 shooting in this one. But overall, Marquette is showing to be a very dangerous team at this point in the season.

Tennessee beats Gonzaga

A high-leverage matchup was set up in Phoenix on Sunday between two of the better teams in college basketball when Tennessee and Gonzaga were set to do battle and the game lived up to its billing. At the end of the day Tennessee was able to pull out a 76-73 win, lead by Admiral Schofield, who put up 30 points and hit what proved to be the game-winning three. This was a great game and the only thing it did to me was prove that both of these teams are national title contenders.
