Picking Sunday’s Games

My record coming into this Sunday in picking games, including Thursday’s game where the Broncos blew out the Cardinals, is 54-38-2. Teams with byes this week are the Packers, Raiders, Steelers and Seahawks.

Early games

Titans vs Chargers

The NFL will be heading to London for this matchup and it’s a game between two teams who are seeing their seasons go in opposite directions. The Titans started off 3-1, but have now lost two games in a row and the Chargers are starting to find ways to win games instead of losing them. London games can be weird, but the Chargers are playing much better right now.

Pick: Chargers

Browns vs Buccaneers

Tampa Bay has definitely cooled off since the start of the season. They are still putting up good offensive numbers, but their defense has been as abysmal as anyone in the league. Baker Mayfield will certainly need to play better than he did a week ago, and I think he will do that and the Browns defense will play well enough for them to be able to pull out a road win.

Pick: Browns

Panthers vs Eagles

The Panthers are 3-2 but I’m not overly-impressed with them. I think Carson Wentz is also starting to show some signs of getting back to the form he was before his knee injury last season. With this game being in Philadelphia, I think the Eagles defense will be able to put the clamps on Cam Newton and the Panthers offense and the Eagles will start to gain some real momentum.

Pick: Eagles

Vikings vs Jets

The Vikings aren’t heavy favorites going into East Rutherford for this one and that’s understandable because the Jets have looked better the last couple of weeks in their wins over the Colts and Broncos, and the Vikings have been more shaky this season than people predicted before the season started. I do think the Vikings will be able to get a win in this one because their defense will be going against a rookie quarterback, but this game being close wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

Pick: Vikings

Lions vs Dolphis

Brock Osweiler will be making his second straight start and somehow the Dolphins were able to pull out a win last week against the Bears. The Bears are a better team than the Lions so it’s not unreasonable to think the Dolphins could win another game with Osweiler under center, but I’m not going to pick that to happen.

Pick: Lions

Patriots vs Bears

Chicago is coming off of a rough loss on the road to Miami and now they will have to try and re-group as Tom Brady and the Patriots are coming to town. I’m expecting a close game in this one because the Bears do have some qualities of teams that have beaten the Patriots in the past, most notably a good pass rush, but I think Brady will do a good job of not holding onto the ball and that will neutralize the pass rush enough for New England to get a good road win.

Pick: Patriots

Bills vs Colts

I don’t advise anyone to watch this game. Derek Anderson has only been with the Bills for about ten days, but they’ve given him the nod with Josh Allen out, which is understandable because Nathan Peterman is as bad of an NFL quarterback as we’ve seen in some time. I’ll take the Colts in this one because I think the Bills will be limited offensively and Andrew Luck will be the difference.

Pick: Colts

Texans vs Jaguars

Houston has honestly been lucky to win any of the games they’ve won this season, but with that being said they are sitting here at 3-3 just like the Jaguars. It was pretty baffling what happened to the Jaguars last week in Dallas so they will be looking to bounce back and I think they will because Deshaun Watson has been under so much pressure this season and the Jacksonville pass rush should be able to continue that trend.

Pick: Jaguars

Late games

Saints vs Ravens

This should be one of the more intriguing games on Sunday. The Saints are coming off of a bye and on top of that they have one of the better offenses in football. On the flip side, the Ravens’ defense is legit and they are putting themselves among the elite defenses in all of football. This should be a very fun matchup seeing that Saints offense going against the Baltimore defense.

Pick: Saints

Cowboys vs Redskins

I have no idea what to think about either of these teams. I think the Redskins are the better team despite what the Cowboys did to the Jaguars last week, but I’m definitely not 100% confident with that statement. I’ll go with Washington just because they’re at home.

Rams vs 49ers

This looked like a premier matchup in the NFC West race before the season started, but with Jimmy Garoppolo being out for the year, a ton of steam has been taken out of it. The 49ers offense has actually been okay since C.J. Beathard has been forced into action, but I don’t see them keeping up with Todd Gurley and that Rams offense.

Pick: Rams

Sunday Night Football

Bengals vs Chiefs

Luckily this game was flexed into the Sunday Night window, because this should be a pretty good one. The Chiefs suffered their first loss last week at the hands of the Patriots, but their offense wasn’t at fault for that as they put up 40 points. The Chiefs are the better team, but their defense has been so bad this season that they could lose to anyone. I’m going to pick them to win this game at home, but Cincinnati should be able to keep up with them because of how bad that Chiefs defense has been this season.

Pick: Chiefs
