Previewing Sunday’s Games

My record picking NFL games this season, including the Patriots Thursday Night win, is 34-28-2. Teams with byes this week are the Bears and Buccaneers.

Early games

Titans vs Bills

I’m still not sure how good Tennessee is, but they have a great chance here to make themselves 4-1 with a road game to what I still believe is one of the worst teams in the NFL. This does kind of have the feeling of a game the Titans have a letdown, but I’m not going to pick that.

Pick: Titans

Falcons vs Steelers

Both of these teams need a win really badly and I’m going to pick the Steelers to get the much needed win. The reason I’m going with Pittsburgh is because they’re at home, but even more so because the Atlanta secondary is really banged up and I think the Steelers offense could put up some big numbers.

Pick: Steelers

Broncos vs Jets

Sam Darnold has really looked like a rookie this season and trying to go up against this Denver pass rush, that did as good of a job as anyone has this season against Patrick Mahomes, is a tough task. The saving grace is the Jets are at home and the Broncos have to travel across the country, but I still think Denver gets the win.

Pick: Broncos

Jaguars vs Chiefs

This is the game of the week on paper. The Chiefs have been nearly unstoppable this season, but the Jaguars have maybe the best defense in all of football, especially in the secondary and with the pass rush. If anyone is going to give Mahomes serious issues, it’s probably the Jaguars, even more so than the Broncos last week, even though the Chiefs still scored 27 points. I’m going to pick Kansas City simply because they’re at home.

Pick: Chiefs

Packers vs Lions

This game has been a pick-em game all week or with the Lions being narrow favorites, and I’m not exactly sure why that is. I haven’t been too impressed with the Lions this year, although they’ve been better since their week one loss to the Jets. I think Aaron Rodgers will have a big game and the Packers will go in and get a road win.

Pick: Packers

Ravens vs Browns

Baker Mayfield has been impressive this season in limited action and has shown that he can move the ball against NFL defenses. Now he will have his first home start against the best defense he will have seen in his limited action. I like where the Browns are headed, but I really like what I’ve seen from Baltimore this season and think they can get a road win.

Pick: Ravens

Giants vs Panthers

This game doesn’t have a lot of intrigue. The Giants have been pretty bad on offense this season and with them going on the road against a solid defense, there’s no reason to think it will be much different this week.

Pick: Panthers

Dolphins vs Bengals

Not many people would’ve thought this would be an interesting matchup coming into the season, but both teams have a chance to go to 4-1 on the season, so this game does have importance. I’m going with Cincinnati because I trust them a little bit more, and they’re at home.

Pick: Bengals

Late games

Raiders vs Chargers

Despite the fact that this will be a road game at home for the Chargers, I don’t see many advantages for the Raiders. The Chargers defense isn’t amazing, but they’re good enough and I think the Chargers will do some serious damage against the bad Raiders defense.

Pick: Chargers

Cardinals vs 49ers

Who cares. I guess I’ll go with the 49ers because they’re at home.

Pick: 49ers

Vikings vs Eagles

Much like the Falcons vs Steelers matchup, this is a game of two teams that could really use wins after having subpar starts to the season. I really don’t know where to go with this game, because the Eagles have the advantage of being at home, but the Vikings played last Thursday so they have had extra time. Overall the Vikings defense has been a little more spotty this season so I’m going to go with the Eagles.

Pick: Eagles

Rams vs Seahawks

Seattle has been off to a pretty rough start this season and the Rams look as good as anyone in the NFL so far, plus they played last Thursday so they’ve had extra time to prepare and recover for this game. Last year the Rams beat the Seahawks pretty bad in Seattle and I think that could be the case again.

Pick: Rams

Sunday Night Football

Cowboys vs Texans

I had high hopes for the Texans coming into this season, but they’ve been disappointing so far. The Cowboys have been about what I expected so far, which is an average team that can beat people, but they clearly aren’t one of the best teams in the league. I think the combination of Deshaun Watson being the best quarterback in this game and the Texans being at home will be enough to win a close game.

Pick: Texans
