Thursday Night Football this week will take us to Foxborough for what fans could consider a rivalry game. The Colts are pretty banged up going into this game and asking them to go in and win a game at New England healthy would’ve been tough enough, but now they will have a really tough time trying to do it.
Colts offense vs Patriots defense
Offensively the Colts are pretty banged up. They will be missing their top wide receiver in T.Y. Hilton, running back Marlon Mack, tight end Jack Doyle and tackle Anthony Castonzo is banged up.
The Patriots defense looked spotty in the first three games of the season, but last week they really turned it around, by holding the Dolphins to only 7 points, and even that was scored on a garbage-time touchdown.
Andrew Luck appears to be back somewhat close to the form he was before he got injured, but going into New England is a tough ask and hasn’t panned out really well for the Colts over the course of his career.
If there is one side of the ball that I think the Colts can make something happen though, it would be on this side of the ball. Frank Reich is a good offensive mind and Andrew Luck is a good quarterback. Them just having some really key players banged up going into this game is really concerning.
Patriots offense vs Colts defense
This is a total mismatch in my opinion. Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots offense looked amazing last week and they’ve actually looked pretty good most of the season, with the exception of their 26-10 loss to the Lions.
The only way to truly disrupt Brady for four full quarters is to get pressure on him and I just don’t think the Colts have the players to be able to do that for a whole game.
I also don’t think they have the players to matchup with the Patriots targets, even more so, Rob Gronkowski. New England will also be getting Julian Edleman back from his four-game suspension that he served to start the season.
This just isn’t a real interesting matchup to me because the Colts are still trying to build up their defense, but the one player to watch right now is Darius Leonard as the rookie out of South Carolina State is leading the NFL in tackles with 54 tackles.
The Patriots are always dialed in on special teams, but I think I’ll give a slight edge to the Colts in this department because of the presence of Adam Vinatieri. I’m not expecting the Colts to be able to do anything in special teams to really swing this game because both kickers are really good, but Vinatieri is an all-time great.
With this game being in Foxborough I just don’t really see it being all that close. We’ve seen the Colts go into New England before in the Andrew Luck Era and things have never ended well for them. Now maybe with a new coach and a team that seems to be playing pretty confident with the return of Andrew Luck things will be different, but with them being this banged up I’ll have to see it to believe it.
