The Braves have called up their number eight ranked prospect and number 92 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipline, Kolby Allard to make his major league debut. on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins.
Allard is 20-years old and a former first-round pick back in the 2015 draft. This season has been somewhat of a youth movement for the Braves and it has paid off as they had one of the better farm systems in baseball coming into the season and they’ve had some of their top prospects come up and make a good impact, see Ronald Acuña Jr.
The team has however not been playing their best baseball as of late and while the extent of his role is unknown in how much they will use him and rely on him, he could give the team a spark if he comes up and performs well.
Allard is a guy who doesn’t strike out a ton of people, but he also doesn’t walk many people. His fastball is fairly slow compared to what we’ve become accustomed to seeing from pitchers at the major league level, but he locates it well and he uses a good slider and a very good changeup to get hitters out.
He probably won’t be an ace during his career, but he could be a two or three starter on a contending team if he reaches his ceiling and he will have to show off his ability to mix his pitches well in order to last a long time in the major leagues.
It’s been an exciting season for Braves fans in terms of young players coming up and showing off their potential and Allard will just be the latest of those and it’ll be fun to see how a guy who’s somewhat of a throwback pitcher come up and pitch in today’s league when everyone is used to velocity.
